If you have a photo of someone that you'd like to paint and would like to develop your portrait painting skills, this course is for you.
 
Colin will help you to develop and broaden your knowledge and technique around this fascinating and often challenging subject using water-based oil and/or acrylic mediums. Discover how to compose a portrait, draw proportions, and mix and blend colours to paint fabric, tones and textures convincingly.
 
Working from your photograph, his step-by-step approach and demonstrations will also cover wet into wet painting, scumbling and glazing techniques and you will be encouraged to experiment and develop brushwork and mark-making techniques.
 
 
Materials for the course
  • Either an A3 size  MDF or hardboard panel (primed if possible),  or an A3 canvas board, or  stretched canvas
  • A No 6 flat and No 4 flat brush for acrylic or oil painting , and a round size 3 brush for oils or acrylic
  • A small decorator’s paint brush
  • A plastic or wooden palette to mix on
  • Some old cotton rags or kitchen roll for brush wiping
  • A note pad, and pen or pencil
  • An old shirt or an overall / apron to work in
The following colours in Artisan water mixable Oil paint or Winsor & Newton Acrylic
  • French Ultramarine Blue
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Titanium White
  • Ivory Black
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • Cadmium Red
  • Burnt Umber
  • Naples Yellow
  • Viridian Green
