“Adaptability, collegiality, and being a good listener as a tutor are strong points of mine, along with a congenial sense of Cornish humour!”
Colin works in liaison with many arts and creative community organisations throughout the southwest and specifically within the “disability arts” creative sector, serving on the board of EQUATA, (now renamed KALIEDO). He has taught Painting and Drawing methodologies at PCAD, and for Cornwall Adult Education Service, and enjoys meeting new people and developing their varied abilities and approaches, building their confidence and forms of self expression.
His approach as a tutor has always been to support the development of self confidence and artistic ability, through practiced technique and experimentation. He gives his students regular constructive feedback to help them develop their creativity and enhance their critical self evaluation and awareness. However, Colin also believes learning should be fun!
In 1994, Colin acquired a life changing physical condition to his lower spine which then rendered him immobile. However, with a great deal of hard work and self motivation, he has overcome this and continued to establish his profile within the visual arts field, expanding his teaching portfolio. He is also an exhibiting artist, both locally and nationally, and with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the Mall Galleries London.
