Yvette Wiltshire

Yvette is for the most part, a self taught artist, originally learning to draw and paint through adult education classes which she joined with her father when he retired. Such was her talent that she soon changed career and began teaching drawing and painting herself, whilst studying and gaining her Level 4 Certificate in Further Education in 2004.
“I am so fortunate to have been able to turn a hobby into a career and I continue to enjoy it as if it were still a hobby. Meeting and helping so many people to enjoy and develop their skills and interest in painting is very rewarding. I love the challenge of a complete beginner who tells me that they cannot draw and paint, teaching them the skills, and seeing the pleasure that they get when they frame their first painting and the joy that brings to them. I have worked hard to produce paintings worthy of selling, which initially was not easy, so I know just how nervous we all are when we start out on our painting journey, the excitement you feel when you sell your first picture and also the elation at receiving your first commissioned painting for someone’s special present, and I still feel the same today”.
Yvette draws and paints a wide range of subject matters, which allows her to tailor her teaching to her students’ preferred subject area, but she particularly enjoys working in pen and wash and water-soluble pencils for buildings or details of doorways and foliage. She uses acrylics or pure watercolour for most subjects, and pastels for her animal portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and tree studies, and is developing her work in oils.
Yvette’s teaching methods are structured and planned for each set of learners according to their level. Her classes quickly develop a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, so as to eliminate any fears the students may have. Based in Liskeard, she currently teaches several groups privately and through her local adult education centre, and also provides one to one tuition sessions.
“Whatever your goal is, with good fortune and effort it can be achieved - never say that you can’t paint or think you should give up, because with the right help and determination your ability and skills will improve”.
